How to get QPhotoRec (GUI) on CachyOS

Hello everyone,

I recently switched over from a heavily modified Win 10 to CachyOS. I have some basics down due to experience with Unix (work stuff) and Linux (10+ years ago).

My “problem” is simple. Sometimes my friends and family bring me external HDDs or internal ones for file recovery. The TestDisk/PhotoRec was quite a nice fit for me for this. But, I would prefer a GUI for it. Unfortunately I was not able to figure out how to get the QPhoteRec downloaded. Any suggestions?

sudo pacman -Syu testdisk

Edit: I see. I missed you looking for a GUI. Unfortunately, the specific GUI application you’re looking for has no publicly available binary that I can see.

If you’re comfortable doing it, you could build it from source:

Compilation environnement

testdisk uses several libraries if available:

 * libncurses - Required, TestDisk and PhotoRec use a text user interface, Ncurses library and development files must be available.
 * Ext2fs library - Optional, used by TestDisk to list files from ext2/ext3/ext4 partition and by PhotoRec to be able to carve the free space from an ext2/ext3 partition instead of the whole partition
 * EWF library - Optional, TestDisk and PhotoRec use it to access Expert Witness Compression Format files (ie Encase files)
 * Iconv - Optional, used to handle unicode filenames
 * Jpeg library - Optional, used by PhotoRec to improved JPEG recovery rate

Might do this later. Currently I setup a script that launches from a desktop Icon. Still usable. Thanks for the help.
