How Safe Is It to Install FUSE2

So Fuse2 being excluded from default installations of some distros has been turning into a headache for me lately. From what I understand, Fuse2 has been unmaintained for a while so there are security concerns for distros. I totally understand that. However, there seems to be a disagreement between software developers and distro maintainers as most appimage applications I need still insist on Fuse 2.

Lately I’ve been trying to install LinuxTracker x-IR and my options are either appimage or building it myself. Tried appimage first, got the error, went to Gitlab and asked for help and the help I received from the developer was simply to install fuse 2. So I’m at a bit of a dilemma.

How safe is it to keep using Fuse 2? Does it cause conflicts with Fuse 3? Should I stay away from it or am I overthinking? What are your thoughts on this? Thanks a lot for answers in advance and have a great day!

I don’t know of a currently existing vulnerability with fuse2, but yes fuse is on v3 for 2 years now. Which means if anything pops up with fuse2 it’s not getting fixed.
