Apparently my ASUS laptop comes with a feature called “AI Noise Canceling” (idk if it’s actually AI or just a word they slapped on). It should work on Windows with their GUI app, but I can’t seem to find a way to enable it on Linux.
It’s based on a real technology called RNNoise, Asus just added it to armory crate under their own special name.
Easy Effects allows you to apply an “RNNoise” filter directly to your microphone at the system level.
Intall it
sudo pacman -S easyeffects lsp-plugins
-
Enable the Noise Filter:
-
Open EasyEffects.
-
Go to the Input tab (top left).
-
Click Effects (bottom left) → Add Effect → Noise Reduction.
-
Ensure the “Model” is set to RNNoise. (This is the “AI” part).
-
-
Set as Default:
- In your System Settings (KDE or GNOME), set your Input Device to “EasyEffects Source”.
Thanks, but how do you tell it’s based on RNNoise tho? Also did Asus not modify/improve upon it at all? Since I prefer using directly the Asus one but it seems like it’s not possible?
I guess Asus is not interested in providing their Software for Linux users.
But there is plenty of possibilities on Linux. I wrote a guide to optimize and denoise the Microphone: How to optimize microphone quality (fix poor Krisp in discord) for example.
If you want to use the exact same software you had on Windows, this will not always be possible.
But if you care for the result, you can achieve the same things, but you have to use different software.
