there s package installer in cachy os i found , but what is that for ? there s thousand of things in that thing i don t even understand what is that for ? do i have to go to flatpak or install from the package installer ? i am in hell now
You can check whether the app is available in the repository as a native package using pacman -Ss appname. To install the app, use sudo pacman -S appname.
If you can’t find it in the repo, you can try searching it in Flatpak repo using flatpak search appname. To install the Flatpak, use flatpak install appname.
I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I don’t think CachyOS should be your first experience with Linux.
It either takes an already developed level of knowledge about how to use Linux or a willingness to knock into a few walls while learning how to use it.
If you feel like you’re in hell now, then you’re going to be there again, and again, and again, and again right after this even if you do figure out how to install software.
I’d much rather your initial experience be more beginner friendly so you don’t have to go through that. CachyOS is not the beginner friendly distro youtuber hype trains claim it is.
You’re probably looking for more of an “App Store” like experience like you see on Android and iOS for installing software but you won’t find that here.
i just type stuff in the console again and again until it works , that s the only solution i have , i just use the pc to watch youtube and play games , it works on cachyos , but i have problem to update it , it tells me so much stuff i dont even care , if it will not work i would do an install of another distro or go back to windows , the linux experience is very special , i don t like it , but if i just have to type stuff in that godam console , i will do it
GUI = graphical user interface. GUI is a pretty standard abbreviation in use for decades and isn’t limited to Linux.
Jumping in without any sort of background knowledge is going to be pretty rough, and asking basic questions that are easily answered by a simple search will cause forum users to ignore you and at worse become annoyed and express that in responses. You should read various wiki’s, books, blogs.
Using a more beginner friendly Linux distro may be better suited for you.
i already did mint and ubuntu , it sucks and it s bad for gaming , this cachyos thing works for what i do , but the menu is full of useless things for me , this is way too much i admit , but i need an OS to do what i do anyway , i tryed to search for guides , but every page is for different distribution , so fedora doesn t work and manjaro and another bs distro , not a lot for arch linux , that s why i come here , for what i understand pacman is the command for cachy os , i dont even know what pacman has to do whith that but it s ok , thanks , i ve installed the application , and now i don t understand how to do what i want to do hahaha so much fun XD , i will never complain again about microsoft i swear
i did that , duck duck go gives me answers for other distributions , it s too much to test all the things in the console , the guy upthere told me “ flatpak install appname “ and it worked , i dont have half a day to read the 25 console commands to type to access another 25 subcommands , i will try to do nothing else from now , the updater is already broken … thanks anyway
what is the difference between arch linux and cachyos ? just for curiosity? should i install another distribution with a “gui “ thing to install apps ?
