Hello, I’m Matthew. I have been on and off linux for 10+ years, learning many different distros along the way, mainly dual-booting. I have hesitated for a long time to leave Windows due to proprietary apps I use on Windows (ie. PowerDirector, Vegas Studio…etc), and gaming issues with UbisoftConnect not working properly. But with the direction Microsoft is going with spying and AI integration, I’m leaving Windows. I feel confident enough to navigate Linux (Mint, KDE, BigLinux…and many many others), but I really feel good about CachyOS (even though Arch has been a learning curve, it’s not a deterrent).
I’m running a home built, 8 year old computer (Intel Core i7-6700K, with AMD Radeon RX480 and 64gb DDR4 ram), that doesn’t meet Win11 TPM specs, even though I bypassed it with Rufus and it run perfectly fine on the contrary.
My question is, I like Cinnamon, KDE and Gnome Desktop Environments. Is there any downsides to installing all 3 them at the same time during the Cachy install? I had dual-booted all 3 with windows for a short test period and they seemed to work, I’d just log out and log into whatever environment I wanted. Cachy makes it easy to do on install. I just wondered if this was bad in the long run and what I might run into? Cinnamon is typically my go to, but I like to test them all.
Nice to meet you Altman, and thank you! I grew up around SouthWestern Michigan (20 min. outside Kalamazoo), now I’m more Mid-Michigan, dead center of Kzoo, Battle Creek, Ionia and Grand Rapids.
Can you tell me if DavinciReslove is working on Cachy? I’m very used to PowerDirector and Vegas Studio and feel that Davinci is the closest to get me what I need. I think Krita will take care of my Affinity Photo needs.
