Like others, I’m a reformed Windows user that has come to think the collar around my neck has gotten a tad too restrictive. I’ve been using Linux on and off for some time, but my old installation of Ubuntu was completely out of date and I figured a transition to the most common distro (Arch) was in order. Valve’s release of their Arch-based devices led me to think I’d find a lot of help for my trouble shooting through simple searches. I’ve also come to appreciate the Arch wiki.
I ended up not being able to get my hybrid graphics to work on my old laptop, had added and removed packages that I didn’t keep track of and the siren song of “CachyOS package installer” along with talk online of preinstalled packages led me here. It’s Arch with KDE Plasma AND it comes with useful software out of the box!
It was handy for my initial setup, but going forward I’ll be using pacman or yay. It was only 10 or so packages that I downloaded through it, so if it does cause me any issues I should be able to figure it out relatively quickly.
Though it may be mentioned cachy should come with paru - which is very similar and was created by a previous yay dev. There are some technical differences but preference is mostly down to taste here.
Using the terminal (and the right tools) directly puts you in good company.
Hi, also from Queensland (Brisbane), have been using CachyOS for several months, really enjoy using the distro, interested in contributing to design/UI.
