i don’t think it as to do only with mouse input i tested my movement with Mouse Event Viewer and im fairly regular in my mouse click and the dragging distance yet it happen about 3 time out of 10. i also noticed it seems to happen in cylce. to me it will work as intented then drag out 3 time in a row then back to normal. i would appreciate if you guys could try to
You’re misrepresenting now. I didn’t say the distribution is perfect.
What I did say is that KDE Plasma is a desktop environment, and the setting for this is not exposed since migrating to a new library.
In the past there was a setting for this, and the lack of this setting prevents you from setting the distance a cursor can move without initiating a drag.
It is set for the optimum performance for most people… and whilst you can make it happen, I certainly cannot and I’m confident that most other people never manage to trigger it. It requires a very specific and unusual kind of mouse use - fly-by clicking without actually slowing down to target the click.
It is impossible to DRAG if the mouse button is not held down for a period of time long enough to allow the cursor to move (i.e. slow clicking is fine if you’re not flicking the cursor around quickly).
It is also impossible to click the mouse button such that it is closed for an infinitely tiny period of time, so you should always ensure the cursor is not moving too quickly.
It’s possible to change acceleration and pointer speed settings to make the GUI work for you.
What you asked is ‘is there any way to adjust it?’
The answer is currently NO.
The secondary answer is that you can adjust pointer speed and you can adjust your habits to use the GUI.
The logic is fairly simple. Just that someone is telling you the truth and you don’t like it doesn’t make them the villain.
If you wish to have settings exposed for this in Plasma, then the place to ask is the KDE Plasma forum wouldn’t you agree?
That is kind of crazy. Having just turned up everything I can in both KDE Plasma settings and on my mouse itself, I do not get any movements at all when clicking, even with mouse acceleration enabled. The max when accidentally bumping my mouse was one to three pixels.
So, is the common thread between people having this issue KDE Plasma and Logitech mice?
i tried enabling mouse acceleration (i disabled it when i installed because it give me bad accuracy) and somehow it reduced the frequency of tab dragging
It is clear that something strange is going on with those huge swings. And yeah, sorry, I did not remember the Pulsar comment earlier.
Not what I expected, but I am guessing that the mouse acceleration starts out much slower on the curve.
Besides maybe trying to reinstall libinput I do not really have any suggestions to offer. It is odd that it happens so often, but not every single time.
