HDR no longer available

It seems that after receiving the following updates earlier today:

[2024-10-17T10:00:18+0200] [ALPM] upgraded kwin (6.2.1-2 -> 6.2.1.1-2)
[2024-10-17T10:00:19+0200] [ALPM] upgraded plasma-workspace (6.2.1-2 -> 6.2.1.1-1.1)

The HDR settings/capabilities for my monitor are no longer being applied nor available through KDE’s display configuration. Running kscreen-doctor -o does show HDR: enabled for the HDR-capable monitor, but the monitor does not seem to be displaying in HDR.

When reverting back to 6.2.1-2, the monitor is displaying in HDR again, but the settings for it are still not showing up in the display configuration.

// edit: last kwin version that properly shows HDR options in the display configuration was 6.1.90-1.

You have nvidia gpu? KDE disabled HDR for nvidia because of bugs

Ah OK that would explain it, as I do indeed have an NVidia GPU. Thanks for your reply, hopefully it will be re-enabled soon…

Just in case anyone runs into the same issue, the commit that disables the HDR colorspace for NVidia cards also introduces an environment variable to re-enable it (can be set through /etc/environment for example):

KWIN_DRM_ALLOW_NVIDIA_COLORSPACE=1
