The cachyos repo contains the package freefilesync. I guess it’s the compiled version from the aur package AUR (en) - freefilesync. But the repo version is outdated.
When are these rebuilds scheduled? Or how does this promotion work? When does an AUR package find its way into the custom cachyos repos?
I used to be a FreeFileSync user for years, but once I got comfortable with rsync, I stopped needing it entirely.
If you regularly sync the same folders, it’s super convenient to set up aliases – like sync-videos that runs a specific rsync command.
Or even better, a simple script that handles multiple sync tasks at once. No clicking around in a GUI, no extra dependencies. Just clean shell and everything works.
For me, it’s faster, more reliable, and gives way more control than any GUI tool.
If someone hasn’t tried it yet, I’d really recommend giving rsync a shot – beyond local sync, it works beautifully over SSH or with remote storage. Definitely worth learning.
Yes, because it does not compile currently.
Thanks for the replies. I’m using rclone and rsync heavily but for this one use-case, I prefer a GUI.
What seems to be the problem? Is there a log or anything?
FreeFileSync will tell you when it’s of out date with a popup on launch. That said install it from the AUR. As for rsync it’s no faster than FreeFileSync once FFS is properly set up unless one has create aliases for it.
