Hey folks! I just realized I forgot to disable fast boot in Windows 11 before I installed CachyOS alongside it. Over the past days, I’ve been experiencing strange behaviours like the PC not really going to sleep (screens won’t turn off, Espanso and keyboard backlight are off after waking up), apps breaking after waking up from sleep, my third monitor (which is connected via HDMI) staying off until I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and then +F2, after which sometimes my mouse won’t work until I plug the dongle back in….
I have no idea if all of that is due to fast boot being enabled in Windows when I installed CachyOS, but anyway, I’ve disabled it now and I’m still getting weird behaviours.
As far as I know locking drives is all Fast Boot will do and nothing else. You may want to find your Cachy install logs and post them to a pastebin then link here.
Thanks! Over the day today, I actually decided I’ll do a fresh install over the weekend. I’m new to CachyOS and reinstalling isn’t that much of a hassle, plus there’s always something interesting to learn with every round
That said, would you happen to know how I would go about finding the install logs, as in, specifically the ones from the fresh install I did last weeknd? Would that be cachyos-bugreport.sh?
Not so .. it can do many other things like hold the networking card hostage.
But ..
We are also talking about “Fast Startup” - a windoze feature that ensures the system hibernates instead of shutting down - it appears to startup faster because it never stopped in the first place. Pure genius.
Anyways. Its effects also are not going to be permanent.
If you disabled it again or otherwise caused a true de-power (like a period without any power supply).. then it cannot still be hurting you.
The only exception being if it caused a ‘dirty bit’ to be set on any partition/disk in which case the chkdsk tool is needed for repair and verification.
So if its anything beyond that then whatever issue you are having likely is something else.
