Flight controls affect mouse even when the simulator is not running

Noobie to CachyOS and not a power user. I installed CachyOS with the sole purpose of using it as a platform for X-Plane 12, it’s on it’s own SSD. I’m trying to migrate from Windows 11, which is on a separate SSD, also with X-Plane 12. My daily driver is Mint, also on a separate SSD.

The problem: When I boot up to CachyOS, the flight controls mess up the mouse. It happens before I even attempt to load X-Plane 12. If I disconnect the flight controls the mouse works correctly. If I connect any of them (yoke, pedals or quadrant) the mouse gets messed up. It doesn’t matter which control or which USB port on the front panel I use. The flight controls and mouse work correctly inside X-Plane. The problem does not happen if I boot up to Windows 11 or Mint, or even after I use X-Plane on Windows. What the mouse does is that moving any flight control will move the mouse icon, resizes it, randomly opens pop-up windows or any combination. I don’t know how to link the bug report. I did run it and upload it but I don’t know where it went. Yoke: HoneyComb Alpha, Quadrant by Saitek, I can’t remember pedals right now but I can’t plug them in to find out because it would mess up my mouse. BTW, I have latest MSI BIOS and up to date X-Plane 12 and CachyOS. (As of a few hours ago). Thank you.

Hello and welcome,

Similar to this other similar thing maybe?

PS.

When you run sudo cachyos-bugreport.sh it should result in printing a link.
You would share that link.

Thank you. I did read that before posting. It doesn’t seem to be the same issue. I’m not using a game controller and there are no settings for “Allow using as pointer and keyboard” anywhere. The problem doesn’t happen when I use the Windows 11 installation.

What desktop environment or window manager?

I had somewhat assumed Plasma.

The bugreport would also include details like that.

All Plasma DE systems should have the same option regardless of the presence of a game controller.

I s this the link? edaf5cf

My mistake, I thought the setting was on the controller. Like I mentioned, I’m a total newbie. I chose Plasma when I installed, I assume it didn’t change on updates. I’m looking for that setting now. Thanks

Yes, that is the bugreport. Thank you.

It does show a Plasma DE.

So the original suggestion would be found in System Settings > Input & Output > Game Controller where there is a slider for Allow using as pointer and keyboard.
Check with this setting disabled.

You were correct, it was that setting. I couldn’t find it at first because it only shows up when a controller is plugged in. I plugged in the throttle quadrant and the screen updated with the switch available. Turning it off disabled the setting for all the flight controls. Everything seems to be working properly. Thank you very much for your help.

Huh.
It is present on, for example, my laptop when it is plugged into and connected to nothing.
So curious .. but if it does sometimes disappear that is still worth knowing.

Glad it worked out. Cheers and happy penguining. :penguin:

PS.

If it does disappear for you under certain conditions .. can you still raise it at those times with the following?;

kcmshell6 kcm_gamecontroller

Again just might be useful to know.
