First boot not working

I wiped my hard drive to install CachyOS from scratch. It all seemed Ok until I booted as it asked me to do.

The error is;

You are in emergency mode. After logging in, type “journal to - xb” to view system logs, “system to reboot” to reboot, or “exit” to continue boot up.

Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked.

See sulogin(8) man page for more details.

Press Enter to continue.

Reloading system manager configuration.

Starting initrd.target

I’m completely stuck. First attempt at wanting to get to Linux and not the greatest experience lol. Any ideas much appreciated.

Hi there,

I’m relatively new to Linux also, so I can’t help with that error specifically, but it may help people to understand what choices you made during installation, which filesystem, bootloader and so on. [edit] perhaps what machine you are trying to run on, CPU, GPU, memory etc.

Also those commands look strange, surely you mean

journalctl -xb” to view system logs

systemctl reboot” to reboot

so type the first command as I have written above and then copy the output here?

Hello and welcome,

We could go through troubleshooting and/or recovery steps but as its a new install it probably makes sense to just start over or start from there ..

We must always ask;

  • What ISO was used ?
  • Where it was from ?
  • Was it verified ?
  • How was it written ?
