Failed to fresh install CachyOS with latest iso

I was trying to install cachyos using the latest iso but It looks to be stucked showing “_” on the top left corner.
I tried using the previous iso and that allowed me to start the gui and proceed with the installation but chwd error and wouldn’t be able to complete.

Last message before the “_” at the top left corner is “Starting User Manager for UID 1000…”

hardware specification:
cpu: AMD Ryzen R7 7800x3D
ram: 32GB ddr5 cl36 (expo profile 6000mhz configuration)
gpu: AMD RX 7900XTX
motherboard: asrock x670e pg lightning, bios ver. 2.10

Same result with nomodeset, here is where It stops:

I’m having the exact same issues on an AMD Ryzen R5 5600x with an AMD RX 6650 XT. I’ve seen another thread with a similar issue and they had double AMD, too.

Can you try CTRL + ALT + F3 and then CTRL + ALT + F1 again?

it seems the general solution would be installing “sddm-git”

ok that explains why when i installed sddm the same issue happened even in a vm

Oh? Ive tested it in Qemu a lot of times and it works fine

so i tried installing sddm and sddm-kcm and install a not offered desktop in cachyos when i rebooted a few times it showed the same screen tried lightdm instead and it helped this is all in a vm

Mhm, can you provide how i can exactly reproduce this in QEMU?

ok so first install sddm and sddm-kcm (pick no desktop first before you get to the package select screen) from the installer then install enlightenment from archwiki and then randomly it will happen and also select wayland instead of x11 and wayland again??

Sorry, where should I input these combinations?
Im unable to do anything and It just gets stucked at that point.
One thing I want to mention is that I was able to use OS in live mode with the previous iso only problem was having a chwd error during installation.
It looks like I can’t go past this right now.

CTRL + ALT + F3 → F1 doesn’t work. It doesn’t switch tty and stays on the black screen with the cursor (not blinking) on the top left.

Are you using latest iso? They addressed in in the September 2024 update.

Yes, the older ISOs start into the GUI but have an error because of a change they made. It’s only the latest ISO that has that black screen issue.

Yeah It looks like something happened between the latest two ISOs.

I have exactly the same issue. (AMD 5800x3D & AMD RX7900XT)

Found a solution…
Since zen4 has an iGPU I switched to my iGPU and the gui started, was able to perform the installation and everything is fine now.
Problem is related to rdna2/rdna3 detection maybe?

Went back to dGPU post installation and no issues.

mh unfortunately 5800x3d has no iGPU so I need to wait for other solutions. @ptr1337 any ideas?

Have you got a spare gpu?
Funny thing is that the iGPU in the 7800x3D is rdna2 so… rdna3 issue?

I figured it out; at least for me. I assumed you usually have multiple monitors and only connected 1 when you tried your iGPU; which is when it worked. So I unplugged my second monitor and tried it again. It worked!

I will try this later :+1:

Edit: i can confirm, with one Monitor it is working.
