Dolphin freezes during file transfers → system becomes sluggish, sometimes requires restart

Hi,

I’m experiencing repeated freezes and sluggish behavior with Dolphin on CachyOS.

Exact symptoms:

1. Dolphin freezes during file transfers:

   • Copy/move operations
   • Drag-and-drop
   • File operations in general

2. System becomes sluggish:

   • During Dolphin freezes
   • Desktop feels slow
   • Applications take long to respond

3. Sometimes file operations don’t recover:

   • Have to restart PC
   • Operation stuck forever

4. Desktop/path confusion:

   • Earlier had issues with Desktop / Schreibtisch paths
   • Wonder if related to file manager or desktop integration

What I observed:

• System is otherwise usable
• Dolphin seems unstable during file operations
• Problem is recurring, not just one-time glitch
• Feels like file manager or file transfer handling issue

System info:

• CachyOS (latest)
• KDE Plasma 6.x (Wayland)
• Dolphin as file manager
• 4 drives (2 SSD + 2 HDD)
• File operations across different drives

What I tried:

• Restarted Dolphin
• Restarted KDE
• Cleared Dolphin cache
• Checked for file errors

1. Is Dolphin freezing during file transfers a known issue on CachyOS?

   • Especially with multiple drives?

   • Desktop integration (KDesktop)?
   • Wayland vs X11?
   • Filesystem type (ext4 vs NTFS)?

3. Are there workarounds for recurring file transfer hangs?

   • Disable preview?
   • Disable thumbnails?
   • Use different file manager?

4. Is there a CachyOS-specific Dolphin patch or config?

   • Maybe KDE package from cachyos repo?

5. Could this be related to:

   • Disk I/O performance?
   • Drive mounting issues?
   • Permission problems?

6. How to debug Dolphin freezes?

   • dmesg?
   • journalctl?
   • Dolphin debug mode?

Why this matters:

• File manager should be stable
• Freezes during copy/move are annoying

CachyOS startup/update setting re-enables itself after reboot → config not persisting

Hi, I found a strange issue on my CachyOS system: a startup/update-related setting turns itself back on after reboot, even though I disabled it. Main issue:

• Dolphin freezes during file transfers
• the system becomes sluggish
• sometimes a restart is needed

The log contains a lot of Wayland/KWin/PipeWire/DBus warnings, so that may help narrow it down.
