I’m totally new to linux and i’ve been using Cachy for the past month or so with great success, honestly i was really satisfied with everything (installation process was rather unstable though). Obviously coming from windows the learning curve is pretty steep but so far i’ve managed to overcome all kind of issues one after the other just by doing some reading with the excellent amount of resources out there.
That being said, today after using the system update (through Cachyos Hello) i launched the update for cachyos 6.13.0.2 (that’s the kernel right ?) and another line related to cachy which i can’t remember unfortunately. And so after the reboot i can’t go past the black screen (just after reFIND screen) with the usual root lines whatever it says.
As a newbie and since i can’t boot anyway, i don’t know how i could provide logs and so i’m guessing you guys might not be able to provide much assistance without it. However i managed to take a picture before rebooting because that error line worried me (see the pictures). I also added another pic that i took after using the “minimalist mode” option under reFIND boot menu, dunno if it provides any useful infos.
So my newbie question to you, am i out of luck and need to reinstall everything on that drive ? Or is there any ways to repair this, implying you have any clue of what happened with no logs from me ?
Btw i’m using an old GTX 660 and 16GB RAM. Everything was working just fine til that update. Granted i had some freeze the last couple days with Kwin (i believe that the name ?) that auto rebooted itself quite a few times i must say.
Well, it seems as a new user i can only upload one pic at a time. Also, it is just me or the picture uploaded is broken ? Let me know if it is and i’ll try again.
Edit : Thank you Naim, fingerprinting was the culprit yeah. I’m indeed on cachy browser. I was so impressed with Cachy that i also installed it on my oldie backup PC which i’m currently using with LXQt.
Does that mean there’s still hope for me to fix this ? The answer is most likely obvious for you but as a newbie i’m rather lost on how this could be repaired. I forgot to mention that i’ve installed snapper on my partition, BUT because i didn’t took the time to look into it yet, i fear it is not setup for easy fix.
So what shoud i do from there ? From my understanding the issue might come from a kernel issue and i believe this kernel has been fixed by now right ?
After some more reading, the closest thing i could find to my issue points me into booting with a live USB and Chroot. From there mount the partitions and then downgrade the kernel (or should i just -Syu and it will get the fixed kernel somehow ?). Am i getting this right ?
I also came across someone saying that if you delete “Quiet” (within the reFIND boot menu) from the menu i keep getting stuck into, it might provides more infos on where the issue come from. But i wonder if it’s not the same or similar to what it’s shown on my 2nd picture ?
I’m new to all of this so let me know if i’m completely off. Any hints to show me what direction i should take is more than welcome.
