Davinci Resolve

Hi guys,

i installed Davinci resolve via pacman, after the installation I launched the program, and it went full screen without the possibility to move it or re-size it.

Also immediately it told me there were a new version, so I downloaded it but now I have a 3GB zipfile and don’t know exactly what to do.

Help?

Hey,

Not an expert here but, did you look at the contents of that zip? Usually applications installed via pacman and the like are update through the OS update system. Some apps checks for updates not at the repo but at their home server and if there is an updated version but it’s not on Linux yet it will still notify. So it will notify about a Windows version or whatever. I suspect that may be the case here.

As for your window size, try..
Open system settings app and locate Window management. Go to Window rules and add new.
Have your Davinci running if possible and click “discover window properties” and click on Davinci window.
In the window that appears click to add window class.
With window class added, click to add properties
Find window size in the list and set it to something that is less than your monitor resolution.

If you do “use from start” (drop down menu next to the resolution you put in) it will be the specified size when you start Davinci but all other windows related to Davinci will probably be the same size

If you do “force” changes will be immidiate but I don’t think it will let you change the size outside window rules. I suggest force to test and when you are happy with the size st it to use from start?
Please note some apps have a minimum size, as a guess.. maybe try setting it to force 800x600 for starts and see how that works out?

DaVinci_Resolve_21.0.1_Linux.run, that’s what is inside.

It’s not so simple.

There is YT video from today of Chris Titus on how to run daVinci on linux - it’s not so simple because of choices made by BlackMagick making package:

and here is his blog with details:
