Just curious how they are running. I haven’t took the plunge just yet and looking to see how peeps that have took the plunge are doing.
Thanks for the feed back!

Haven’t noticed any difference myself, good or bad.
On my system horrible. Switched back
I think that the update is the responsible of severe stuttering. Tested with Steam and Firefox opened and moving the mouse in circles. Same stuttering playing youtube videos.
Current cachyos proton version (11-20260506) doesn’t seem to work well with the drivers (frequent freezes) but proton experimental seems to work well, at least in games I am playing atm.
No problems on my system (5070 Ti). Launched a few games for a quick test and all good. Ran the built in benchmark on Doom Dark Ages and compared the results to previous driver version. Slight edge to the new drivers, but likely within margin of error, so meh. I’d say no difference good or bad in my experience so far.
Thank you all. I’ll let things cook this week. Currently using a (5080) and I’m running off the last set of drivers with no known issues. lol.
Nothing that I’ve done has had anything to crop up at least.
No issues here.
Btw The Outer World 2 still freezes within a minute even with the new version of cachyos proton 20260527
Experimental (Steam default) works with 610 driver.
Ok, the issues with cachyos version of proton appears to be related to descriptor heap on UE5 games. Disabling descriptor heap (not setting VKD3D_CONFIG=descriptor_heap) prevents the freeze. Proton Experimental doesn’t seem to be affected.
I had to roll back to 595 (I think) one of my main games is Diablo 4 and the 610 drivers gave me horrible performance and frequent game crashes.
All gone away after I downgraded. Pinning to 595 for now
you could also try different proton version, and re-installing proton and/or steam. That solved some issues for me. 610 has broken descriptor heap with proton-cachyos in some (maybe all) games, but without descriptor heap I can now play all my games. At first, after updating to 610, games would work on Proton Experimental, but not with CachyOS version of Proton. However, some games then stopped working even with Experimental. I reinstalled Steam, deleted appcache, reinstalled proton-cachyos and things now work, with the exception of descriptor heap not working with proton-cachyos.
Regarding performance, I get significantly better performance on my 4080 with proton-cachyos and disabled descriptor, than with enabled descriptor heap and latest Proton Experimental.
I did try different proton version as the cachy-proton would fail to launch a lot of my games but I have to admit I didn’t try nuking proton and Steam.
I’ll give that a shot and see how it performs, thank you!
Btw I thought I was reinstalling the proton-cachyos package, but I actually installed it. Before that I was only using the steam runtime version of proton-cachyos. For some reason installing the system native version solved the problem with the runtime version as well.
Notice, descriptor heap doesn’t still doesn’t work in some games with cachyos version of proton, so you might have to remove it from launch options. It looks like it’s mainly UE5 games. Also, In the Outter Worlds 2, I can actually use descriptor heap even with cachyos proton as long as I play in third person mode, but as soon as I switch to first person the game will freeze. Proton Experimental doesn’t have this issue, but I get better performance with proton-cachyos (although I cannot claim this applies to all games. It could be game specific)
I didn’t notice any change whatsoever. 5070 and I typically use either default or ProtonGE.
I did notice there was 2 different ones. I believe Cachy recommends the SLR version but i’ll try both and see which I get better performance on. I did the reinstall yesterday. Just haven’t got around to testing it yet. Thank you for the extra info!
Steam default is Proton Experimental. Issues with descriptor heap are on proton-cachyos and in UE5 games.
Did you reinstall Steam as well? If you did, deleting the appcache dir would probably be a good idea.
rm -rf ~/.local/share/Steam/appcache
I did reinstall Steam and cleared the appcache yeah
i tried it on my RTX 4060, i honestly didn’t see any changes ![]()
