Crash after update to linux-cachy 6.10

Hi all, I’m here to report a possible memory leak after I update to linux-cachy 6.10.

I update my system with pacman -Syu daily. Yesterday linux-cachy (6.9.9-2 → 6.10.0-2) and a bunch of KDE stuff (6.3.0 → 6.4.0) were updated.

I first noticed choppiness while playing Dota2, the game periodically freezes for like 3-5 seconds. There were 5 very obvious freezes during a 30mins match.

Then I decided to watch twitch streamings in cachy-browser and after a while the whole system crashed. At first I was able to switch to tty3, but 2mins later tty3 crashed as well. I hard powered off and restarted my PC to continue the game I was watching, and the system crashed again in like 30mins.

I suppose it’s a memory leak?

I’m using znver4 repository, CPU is Ryzen 7840H and desktop environment is KDE.

I found something in logs which may be helpful.

Hi,

Thanks for your report. Yes, this seems likely like an amd gpu issue.

Does this only happening, when using the cachy-browser or in general?
Does downgrading to the 6.9 Kernel fixes the issue?

sudo pacman -U https://archive.cachyos.org/archive/cachyos-v3/linux-cachyos-6.9.9-2-x86_64_v3.pkg.tar.zst https://archive.cachyos.org/archive/cachyos-v3/linux-cachyos-headers-6.9.9-2-x86_64_v3.pkg.tar.zst

Edit:
Do you see some increased vram usage over time? So far it does not look like a memory leak.

Thanks peter.

I think it’s not only cachy-browser, because I also experienced very unusual choppiness when playing dota2.

I will try to downgraded and report back.

I do see increased vram usage over time.

Can you try something that’s not KDE?

Does disable tearing in the KDE Display Settings help?

I’m here to report that downgrade to kernel linux-cachyos-6.9.9 works.
Now everything works normally.

Vanilla archlinux did not push kernel 6.10 until now, maybe they found something wrong.

I tried linux-cachyos-6.10.0-3 today with no luck, system crashed after like 1mins cachy-browser video watching.

How did you downgrade to 6.9.9? I can’t find it in the Kernel manager…

sudo pacman -U https://archive.cachyos.org/archive/cachyos-v3/linux-cachyos-6.9.9-2-x86_64_v3.pkg.tar.zst https://archive.cachyos.org/archive/cachyos-v3/linux-cachyos-headers-6.9.9-2-x86_64_v3.pkg.tar.zst

Even tough, I would suggest you to just use the lts kernel

Just to let you guys know that I got a complete system freeze after downgrading to LTS-kernel (using Shaders) unfortunately.

You mean, while compiling shaders?

No just random system freeze using the computer, I have noticed that when using Shaders as a desktop background the system freezes. If I switch to just an image as desktop background the computer doesn’t seem to freeze.
