Is the cosmic -DE still alpha in new release (240818) ?
I think so.
If it wasn’t in the repos, you could download it here: Arch Linux - cosmic-store 1.0.0.alpha.1-1 (x86_64) Ok, no point.
did that - and it doesn’t open
– but it’s ok as it’s alpha
I was surprised that the OS works and updates run
after release no.9

We have packaged it manually, see here:
It works fine. Do you test it in a VM?
If yes, then you need hardware accelartion
yeah I tried in quemu
@altman do you really think so ???
That wont work with Cosmic. You need hardware accelartion, since it does not have a software renderer.
thx
I found that out yet
I’ll try in virtualbox
I think you need to explicitly enable Hardware accel in vbox
that’s my intention
I have just added the cachyOS repo to my EndeavourOS, then updated, rebooted to cachyos kernel, and then added Cosmic, with the Cosmic greeter. I can get into Cosmic, but it is still very alpha in that most of my normal apps like Thunar, Brave, Remmina will do anything. No log, just failure to run. Mozilla apps like Firefox and Tbird do run. In order to go back to functional I had to re-enable lightdm and use that to get back to XFCE, as the Cosmic Greeter just fails to load it. Just as Lightdm fails to load Cosmic.
Hey there. I’m rusty with Linux and new to Arch, so sorry if I ask something fundamental.
So, I just saw the news that Cosmic alpha-3 was just released. I wanted to test how much it improved since a2, but a simple system update didn’t help.
I enabled the extra-testing
repo, and now alpha-3 packages show up. I couldn’t get yay or pacman to update to them.
What can I do?
Another question, just to calm my curiousity: How long does it usually take for such releases to end up in CachyOS repos? System76 released Cosmic a3 just 3 days ago (and it’s also Sunday today). When can one expect to them to be available?
Once a week if I remember right , maybe it was Mondays when they sync
