I have a Seagate Red 4TB drive, and I need an empty 200GB partition added to the end. No matter what, I get error. I have tried under a live gparted iso, as well as my CachyOS install using KDE Partition Manager and gParted. I have done a balance on the drive and a scrub. No matter what, I cannot resize the partition.
Do not use --repair unless you are advised to do so by a developer
or an experienced user, and then only after having accepted that no
fsck can successfully repair all types of filesystem corruption. E.g.
some software or hardware bugs can fatally damage a volume.
The operation will start in 10 seconds.
Use Ctrl-C to stop it.

Is there a particular command you want the output from? It seems like no one ever responds on these forums. Isnât this a community designed to help others?
You have started a new thread about some issue almost every week since signing up in January and every one of them has had responses except a single thread.
And in a lot of those you seem to complain about âthe communityâ with no real reason or prompting.
Including that bluetooth one where no one responded.
In the case of the bluetooth maybe no one noticed anything they could mention.
Maybe your subsequent messages there discouraged users that would have participated.
If this is some kind of tactic to try and gin up more or better responses like those that employ attempted âthreatsâ like âI am going to have to switch distros unless someone fixes this!â then I would suggest retiring it as its likely going to produce the opposite of desired results.
This is not a feeding trough. You are not an old brake system.
There is no âcomplain more to get moreâ axiom here.
So you have nothing to help fix the problem with all your knowledge? I appreciate you getting my hopes up⌠Keyword: Almost, and I have learned to be able to fix more and more on my own. I feel a bit stalked/creeped you did that much research in to my posts rather than providing any sort of any help. See my point?
Maybe your subsequent messages there discouraged users that would have participated.
If this was every hour or so, sure, I would agree, but when days go by and we have a knowledgeable community here, and seeing questions harder than mine being answered, it becomes discouraging.

You find this a threat? While doing my research on what distro to choose, it was once suggested to go with the like of Ubuntu because of its corporate support behind it. I used Kubuntu many years ago. I canât make a direct comparison these days, but the forums were much faster with useful responses and people wanting to jump in and help over there. During the time I ran Manjaro, I generally seem to recall the same. But a threat? What does it hurt you if I move to another distro. All that said, my point was rather that I would hope to get the same experience here because I do not want to switch distros, and I would like to see this community match up to the experiences I had with those forums.
Oh and FYI I am not looking for instant responses. I just find that in such a knowledgeable community, itâs sad there arenât more users that can stand up in a somewhat timley manner and say, âHey, I donât fully understand the problem.â Can you provide the output ofâŚXYX. I mean you yourself seem very knowledgeable. You understand the basics; I am trying to resize an HDD with BTRFS filesystem. You donât have any input to help troubleshoot this atleast a litte bit?
Did you look at the wiki?
Thats all I have for you.
I do not use BTRFS.
( You can look here: Btrfs - ArchWiki .. which should have already been done and I think it was already linked in the other thread. )
And besides what I already contributed here was, in fact, a contribution.
It may assist you going forward.
No.
This is the internet.
Everyone finds fault with something.
I would bet dollars to donuts that if I had simply stated what I did without the reference I would be having to get them now âfor receiptsâ. Or my statements would have been âtoo short and sharpâ or just âmade upâ or something.
This is an odd take.
There is not simply a ladder of difficulty and everyone who is at some point on that ladder is sure to be an expert on all the preceding rungs.
Different distros.
Much longer lasting.
Much larger userbases.
Both backed by corporations.
Manjaro was far behind ubuntu but still was one of the most popular distros for a while.
I know - I helped build it and was one of the admin/mods there for a time.
But its really just not the same.
Cachy has existed for a few years and has a much much much smaller userbase in general and forum in particular.
The usrs and devs we have seem to prefer other places like discord.
Manjaro is on something like its 5th forum iteration .. maybe its 3rd version of discourse.
You cannot expect the same output from different (and less numerous) people.
And to assume that this is somehow a similarly or even more robust space but people are just choosing to not engage with you is .. a bit shortsighted it would seem to me.
To the extent it is true you are being ignored it might have something to do with that behavior though.
I put âthreatâ in quotation to denote that I do no seriously consider it threatening but that it is attempted as such.
Also maybe you are not familiar with the concept of âto threatenâ when it does not actually mean violence? Like as in âcommunicating intent to cause lossâ. The waves were threatening the shoreline. Someone poured so much the contents of the glass threatened to spill over.. and so on.
And in our examples here we are pretty much exclusively speaking of entitled persons. They imagine that them leaving really would be a loss for us. I dont know how they imagine it .. but I suppose even if not entirely overinflated sense of self they might think we are like McDonalds and so would chase their âbusinessâ?
Anyways regardless of my appraisal of the âthreatâ the intention to âthreaten to leaveâ fits perfectly well .. and even the nuance of such is somewhat implied by the quotation of the term.
Look - I tried to mention that its generally just bad etiquette.
Even if you disagree you might consider how you will likely get more and better responses by .. not acting like that.
As I said above the basics are already available .. both in the expected wikis and through a search here. If you need more help than what I have already written on the subject then all I would be doing is acting as a personal googler for you.
Yes I looked at the wiki and as you see, I linked to two sources that had relevance but looked at many more. I always search first. Saves me time sitting around waiting minutes to hours or days for an answer usually.
You would have bet wrong. Trust me, I am sick of repeating it. At least if I did ask, it wouldnât be so stalkerish. Itâs also a bit odd that this thread is now suddenly linked in all my old threads.
This is an odd take.

No doubt, but DAYS? The BT thread has gone a week, and technically months now, with no answer. I think you need to fix that ladder quote, but I understand what you mean.

Isnât all this what I said?

I mean if you donât mind helping, it would be appreciated! That said, I donât expect it, but any and all help is always a good thing, is it not?
I really wish I could help but as I have no knowledge whatsoever on this topic, there is nothing for me to say besides âsorry, I canât helpâ. I know from hearsay that resizing btrfs partitions may not be as straightforward as it would be with other filesystems, but that may not even be true.
But those links do not reflect what is in the wiki.
Did you do what is there?
You said you did. But now I am not so sure.
This link;
Or written out also in the forums over here (where it is using gparted, on root, and after deleting a windoze partition but thats not really important);
No matter what you try its also important to note the outcome.
Is there a way to downvote this post for the lack of help and simply being argumentative at this point?
Windows was never installed on this drive. That is the actual purpose of resizing the drive: to install Windows.
Anyways, I hopped on the Discord and got lots of (attempted help on there). As HardCode4All said, BTRFS is tricky. The various solutions did not work, so I was left with no choice but to format the drive.
