I think it would be good to give users to choose by their own in an installation iso. Right now it only has paru
I would make the assumption that ‘paru’ is then the preferred/default tool for the job as recommended by the distro.
It’s certainly easy to replace the helper with a single command, if so desired.
feel free to install others too
e.g. paru -S yay
or paru -S pikaur
… and so on
then you will get the demanded choice
No need for that - paru
is top!
I’m not saying it’s hard or not, I’m saying that having choice is better than not.
We have a choice of aur helpers in installer consisting of one entry, while there are many others
no need for any aur-helper
I dont think so. We thought about switching to aura instead of paru at all, but I think this will confuse many users
First the OP did not make a demand that comment was uncalled for. Second @vawaver that is your opinion and you’re more than entitled to it. Third @hotte there are things in the AUR that there is no other way to get the item, so yes a AUR helper is needed. Lastly like @hotte suggested it’s very easy to switch the helper. For me usually after the initial updates I do sudo paacman -S yay, then yay -S pikaur, then pikaur -S pacseek.
Hi,
Why there is so many AUR helpers, it is confusing? Wich ones are the best?
That really depends on what you want in one. Best thing to do is research them.
I did check on Arch Linux wiki here : AUR helpers - ArchWiki
But, frankly, it doesn’t give me more insights as to wich is better. I suppose I can say that the ones written in Rust are more robust and secure.

that command won’t work…
for me it’s aura
That first one is not an opinion and you know it. Do not call something an opinion when you know it’s not. Second as I stated choice of AUR helper is what the user feels comfortable using. You preference of Aura is just that your preference just like mine is Pikaur.
excuse me, SIR, it’s not your task to tell me what I know
for that the discussion with you is over for me…
You dont need an aur helper to get things from AUR.
you can just grab the pkgbuil and makepkg it
So in the end you dont need an aur helper
See this is how one should answer a question. I’ll be honest the AUR helper is faster.
so it is !
@altman
It doesn’t matter - the command is wrong
It’ds called a typo and you damn well know it. Now go troll somewhere else.
