Trouble: Launch the Virtual Box live session for the first time. Unable to get past the non existent password for the live user.
Work Around: Change desktop from Plasma (X11) to Plasma (Wayland). Do not enter a password and the live session continues to launch.
Trouble: Unable to mount VBoxGuestAdditions.iso
Solution: I have not sorted this one out yet. I have ten other virtual machines two of which are based on CachyOS version 250422. I only mention it here because out of all the other VMās this is the only one that will not mount the guest additions, so Iām attributing the common denominator to this iso instead of Virtual Box.
Unable to insert the virtual optical disk C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxGuestAdditions.iso into the machine \cachyos-desktop-linux-250530-arch-grub.
Could not mount the media/drive āC:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox/VBoxGuestAdditions.isoā (VERR_PDM_MEDIA_LOCKED).
Answer is the last line of this post. Between here and there is a rant for the cachy community.
306 views and not a single response. Sure seems to be the current theme in software development. Just good enough.
Iāve read the installation wiki⦠twice. Iāve searched the installation wiki. Not a single mention of password.
So I dropped back to search engines. Duck duck go⦠this very thread is the top result for ācachy liveuser passwordā. Iāve completed the circle jerk. I see threads where users are told the password is liveuser, admin, archcraft, toor, your_momma.
So I keep poking on down the list of results.

Booting from the cachyos-desktop-linux-250713.iso (or cachyos-desktop-linux-250530.iso) file starts the SDDM display manager with proposed Plasma X11 desktop session type, where an empty password for āliveuserā doesnāt work.
Changing from drop-down menu to Wayland helps, and you can log in.
It appears that this is well known bug that confuses beginners.
Tested in VM - VirtualBox 7.0.24
I can confirm. Switching from Plasma X11 to Wayland with no password does indeed work.
Thank you for acknowledging me and the problem. I didnāt even think to capture an image. So you are saying this is in the release notes? I read them⦠I went back and read them again. I do not see any mention on this page. CachyOS July 2025 Release ā CachyOS
Oh, no, I did not mean it was in the release notes.
Just that it had been discussed somewhere or other.
( I thought there were other threads too but thats what I could find in a quick search. )
