zsh default config is just as “boring” and serious as bash. And bash can be made gaudy. I wouldn’t put fish “in between” those - it’s more in the “breaks compatibility with the other 2, in exchange you get some nice command-completion goodies and other niceties”
I totally agree with OP. I got rid of fish in the first week of my Cachy experience. This is a very strange default shell IMHO.
As a fish user for years, I was pleasantly surprised to see fish as the default. Having said that, I can understand those that prefer bash as default. It is the most common shell used, after all.
But isn’t there a choice for which shell to use at initial install, as @Ugo stated above?
I do agree with the premise that fish can be confusing for new users. FWIW, I never would have moved to fish if it hadn’t been the default. Since it was there, I went ahead and gave it a try and have stuck with fish for over a year now.
It would also be nice to not normalize copy/pasting commands from webpages for new/inexperienced users. That horse has left the barn, but for people that don’t understand what they’re doing enough to simply type in bash prior to pasting, it’s eventually going to lead to breakage or compromise of some sort.

Here’s an idea: Why not let the user select the default shell during installation, in the same manner a DE is selected? I think it adds a nice touch.
Currently, it looks as if Cachy is pretty dependent on fish 
but I like the idea of having a choice during installation.
