Boot hanging with systemd=257-1

Just did an update to systemd=257-1. After rebooting my system hangs at

running hook [encrypt]
mounting 'dev/mapper/luks-... ' on real root
running late hook [plymouth]
running cleanup hook [udev]

Waited for about 10 minutes and just got a blinking cursor at bottom right of m screen.

Resolved this for now with downgrading to systemd=256.9-1

  • boot cachyOS ISO
  • cryptSetup open …
  • mount BTRFS volumes
  • archlinux-chroot
  • downgrade these packages to 256.9-1 and add to IgnorePkg
downgrade systemd-libs systemd systemd-resolvconf systemd-sysvcompat

System then boots up fine again.
Got no hints for the cause when looking into journalctl -b-1 in chroot environment. Guess hang occurs when Journal Service wasn’t started yet.
Will try again with systemd>257-1.

cachyos-bugreport.sh: 19f25ab

Very strange… have rebooted a couple of times after first update attempt and boot hung every time.
Now updated again to 257-1 and set systemd.log_level=debug in commandline to try to get some error message… system boots up just fine. Removed systemd debug and still boots fine. Can’t reproduce anymore.
Well… guess issue solved, but user confused :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Gotta hate that kind of problem. I’ve seen similar reports on EndeavousOS forum, so you may not be the only one.

Had the same problem on my Thinkpad T480. After pressing the enter key it would continue booting. I shutdown the machine and thought that I would have to rollback today. To my surprise the issue did not appear anymore today. Maybe the shutdown ‘solved’ the issue, I only tried restarting it yesterday.
