Black screen when monitor was turned off before on GNOME+novideo when VRR is enabled

I have noticed a very annoying issue where, if I have VRR enabled, when I turn off my monitor and turn it back on fullscreen games/application will make display a black screen. To fix it I have to go into the monitor settings and reload the monitor by changing refresh rate/resolution (turning VRR off and back on does not work)

DE: GNOME

CPU: Ryzen 5 7600x

GPU: Novideo GeForce RTX 4070 using the 595.71.05 drivers

This could be an Nvidia driver issue, but you should try testing another DE like Niri, Sway, Cosmic, KDE, etc. and see if the same issue persists across different compositors. If so, then it is either your monitor doing something the Nvidia driver doesn’t like or the Nvidia driver doing something your monitor doesn’t like (or some combination there of). If another compositor works, then it is a mutter issue and should be reported upstream to GNOME.

I’ve tested with the latest drivers and on KDE (with a new user) and I get the same result, I’ll report it to Novideo
