Most people will recommend KDE Plasma. It’s very Windows like, and generally the most advanced feature wise. Valve invests in KDE and a lot of newer features tend to be developed or implemented for it first.
Just keep in mind that Plasma will be dropping support for X11 in the next major feature update, which may bring some transition issues as some accessibility software is X11 only.
Plasma is pretty stable and runs smoothly even on weaker hardware. It has a slightly higher performance demand than XFCE, but should be fine on your hardware. You can always install it alongside something else to try it.
