Hello,
I tried to install CACHY OS onto an external SSD USB Transcend 256GB fast drive and the installation completely failed.
The live user was working fine - I had WIFI working, sound was OK, both GPU’s were discovered by live USB session on CACHY OS - kernel 6.11
However after I finished installing it on to external USB stick 256GB - with Cinnamon desktop option chosen - the computer greeted me with a black screen after restarting and trying to boot from the installed Cachy OS USB media.
The situation does not change whether or not I choose standard Cachy OS launch or fallback - with the difference hat the “fallback” option gives some more verbose errors - attached in the screenshot.
i have switched to ext as filesystem during installation
THanks to that I have succeeded to install Cachy OS on ASUS Proart PX13 Nvidia 4060
it uses kernel version 6.12.6-2-cachyos (64bit) and Wayland
Wifi wirks, Nvidia drivers work, Bluetooth works, even touch screen and pencil work - but with various successes - meaning the pencil works on some apps and does not work on other apps. I have no idea why. for example =the pencil works with krita and blender, but it does not work with OpenToonz app
Hey, I have bought you laptops’ bigger brother with a 4070 instead… I have been struggling for 2 weeks, trying to make everything work (I even had to switch to gnome ). Today my EndeavourOS installation magically bricked itself (definitely not the first one), so I decided to switch to CachyOS. This happened to be the best decision for my laptop… Everything now works flawlessly, without unneeded efforts and my laptop is blazing fast
Huge thanks to the CachyOS community, you are the best
@PapyLols happy to hear that!
How did you deal with the hit and miss Pencil support? is there anything in Arch Linux that would make the pencil work better? I mean - some apps just don’t seem to react on it at all - while others (like Krita) play nice with the Asus pencil…
Best!
@PapyLols also which filesystem and desktop are you using in Cachy OS on Asus PX13? I tried cinnamon and btrfs and failed miserably. Now I run KDE Wayland which is OK. I wonder if I will brick my installation if I try to switch desktops…
Hi @De_eM,
On the pencil support part, I know plasma 6.2 considerably improved drawing tablet support, my guess is it will continually be improved… I haven’t really dug into this part to be honest, the main sell point for me was the solid gpu, the gorgeous screen and the overall quality of the chassis… I have tried gimp with the pencil without great success
The file system depends on the use you will make of your laptop… The cachyos has a great page on it. Since I use docker on a daily basis, I decided to run away from BTRFS, and since I know better ext4, I decided to stick with it… My guess is since you have a Desktop Manager (SDDM if you installed plasma), this souldn’t brick your system, and you should be able to select your desktop environment from the sddm entry. Backup your data before the process and do it only if you are willing to risk breaking your current system. If this works and cinnamon suits you, do a clean install with only cinnamon so you have a clean base.
Best of luck! EDIT: I found this discussion, it could be interesting for you
