Hey cool, glad that it can help out to learn something new @brikler

Yep I use it a little, for certain usage, backups, storage yada yada. :slight_smile:

tuned-adm active
Current active profile: throughput-performance

@altman Do you use it and why.

Cool @1fallen

I use it for the heck of it, not that I need it with Cachy Kernels I would think, just to try it out.

Do I see a difference ! Maybe not, Did I measure the results afterward, Nop. lol

❯ tuned-adm active
Current active profile: balanced

I’ll use the different modes for different tasks my back-up strategy I’ll use

- throughput-performance
- Broadly applicable tuning that
provides excellent performance across a variety of common server
workloads

Have I noticed any differences, very slight, it seems ptr1337 and crew have the kernels tuned for this and nicely too I might add.

The reason I asked is not very many know of this tool, so I’m both surprised and glad for the mention.

There is one more tool I use I’ve not seen anyone else use, and it is for ZFS snapshots>>>> GitHub - manoeldesouza/zc: ZFS Commander - ZFS filesystem manager
But I use it with the knowledge that it is 4 years old now, but still fits one part of my back-ups. Sorry I strayed a bit off topic.

Oh, that s cool @1fallen

Yep, I ve been knowing about Tuned for some monthd now, bet that it might be better for the mainline kernel release, but I don t know about that.

As you stated above maybe @ptr1337 might chimin on that.

& I didn t know about ZFS Commander , & weirdly enough I don t know if I used it on my latest CahyOS install . lol

Edit:Typo

That’s where I see the biggest gain, but as mentioned the CachyOS team has some pretty slick kernels that work pretty damn good as is.

With Tuned on a Cachy LTO kernel just a very slight gain is noticed, and hardly worth any mention all Kudos to the Team :ok_hand:

Yes sir, I presently use the Linux cachyos-x8664 6.10.9-1-cachyos-sched-ext-lto kernel as well as another spare one, never know, & I find it pretty good on my end @1fallen for what I do on my PC which isn t much compared to other ones.

Edit: This is the File System that I ve chosen while I instaled the last time, gee, a first for me ! fs: btrfs Didn t remember me chosen it ! lol

Bet that I ve done it while doing other things at the same time.

:rofl: :rofl: Yep I’ll do too many things at once as well, which makes me wonder if I’m loosing my mind :scream:
But it looks like great minds think alike. :wink:

lol, you bet sir !

I think that it might be the 1st time that I have an install on BTRFS on my end !

Try it for a while and let me know how you like it.
I also compress my /home directory for a little more zip.

less /etc/fstab|grep /home
UUID=2d884238-1cbd-4285-91ac-81bb718e2f93 /home          btrfs   subvol=/@home,defaults,noatime,compress-force=zstd:302

Linux cachyos-butter 6.10.9-2-cachyos-lto #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun, 08 Sep 2024 20:24:28 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux

It s going well up to now, might have been installed maybe a month ago, I don t remember @1fallen .

& I don t know the command in order to check for how long it s been installed if it existed.

Edit:Gee, it s allot earleir than I tought at first !

A little search goes a long ways;

❯ find -type f -printf '%C+ %p\n' | sort | head --lines=1
2024-08-26+17:39:52.4679253140 ./.config/fish/config.fish

Mine is fairly recent due to me removing the “bcahefs” system:

stat / | awk '/Birth: /{print $2 " " substr($3,1,5)}'
2024-09-02 14:51

Oh cool. thx @1fallen

❯ stat / | awk '/Birth: /{print $2 " " substr($3,1,5)}'
2024-08-26 17:33

Mine s due to me screwing up my install as I used to do regularly at one point ! lol

I enjoy our forum reply’s I feel your a Very Nice Person.
Nice People= My cup of tea
Haters=Haters enough said there.

Hey thx @1fallen . It s not always like that on real life ! lol

Yep this is always a work in progress for me as well, I tend to get short with folks that want to irratate folks…I prefer the High Road it’s less traveled.

Yes sir. Life s a bit easier that way.
