ive restored a snapshot using limine before booting because of this problem ive had, clicked on the prompt on the bottom right on my desktop, selected restore, and rebootet. its booting into this snapshot now by default, however this prompt shows up every boot now. doesnt seem right to me?
i cant open the package installer, getting a prompt something else is in use. did unlock the DB with the cachyos-hello tweaks. then it works.. but after reboot the db is still locked and the prompt shows up again, the changes i made are reversed to the snapshots state. how do i make this snapshot the default??
when i try sudo snapper modify –default 154 its not working, telling me snapshot 154 is not found.
Did you mess with the kernel cmdline before the snapshot was created? If so, the snapshot was already bad, causing it to always boot the snapshot after restore
Were you using a custom Limine setup instead of the default CachyOS one?
When you created the bad snapshot, did you see a warning like:
"Mismatch detected: ROOT_SUBVOLUME_PATH does not match kernel cmdline ‘subvol=…’
Don’t ignore that warning, it means the snapshot was broken.
You have two solutions to fix this without reinstalling:
After restoring the bad snapshot, don’t reboot yet. First open /boot/limine.conf, fix the wrong subvol flag in the kernel cmdline, it should be like the default flag rootflags=subvol=@. Then reboot.
or
Boot into a different, working snapshot that contains the right kernel cmdline.
i used the default limine that comes with the cachyos setup. there was no error. ive did try many snapshots, (like at least 10-15 snapshots between #160 and 100. none of them did work. they all bootet fine, but couldn’t be made default. the terminal output was all succesful without errors. just like i could update after unlocking the db in read only, but obviously it didnt save.
i already did a clean install as i keep most of my data on my server , it didnt hurt. took me 10min and a few more min to configure
