5.1 Audio only as Stereo

Hello everyone!

I’ve just installed CachyOS for the first time and my problem is:
Onboard audio (of ASRock X670E PG Lightning) is capable of 5.1 sound (and a 5.1 speaker setup is connected), however the device only shows up as 2.0.
This is a fresh install and I haven’t modified anything.
I’ve tried switching to LTS and RC kernels but that didn’t help. I’ve tried reinstalling all packages (from CachyOS Hello) and that didn’t help.

Here is my bugreport: d2716f1

Here are a few log outputs that I’ve found asked in similar threads:

That error about mod.rt might be a hint.

I suspect that last “card 3” ‘ALC897’ might be the actual one, but it shows 0/1 subdevices, which seems weird.

Any ideas how to further debug this?

Here card #54 is the Yeti mic, which I do use for headphones from time to time, but it’s wrong that it shows up as 5.1 capable, whereas card #56 that shows up as “ALC897” doesn’t have a 5.1 profile. But idk, maybe card #55 is the actual one.

I’ve tried installing pulseaudio, that didn’t fix it. Replaced it with pipewire-pulse. That didn’t fix it.

I’ve tried setting the device to 6ch in alsamixer, didn’t work.

I’ve tried the RC kernel, since I’m getting freezes due to pageflip timeouts (an unrelated problem) and now the audio issue is fixed!

So the solution might be a mix of:

  • RC Kernel (7.0.0-rc6-1-cachyos-rc (64-bit))
  • pipewire-pulse
  • setting the device to 6ch in alsamixer

Now it’s working on the Kernel Version: 6.19.11-1-cachyos (64-bit), (so not RC) which is 0.0.1 higher than previously.

Update: I have pipewire config for upmixing as well as a loopback device so I can use EasyEffects and a startup script that uses pw-link to route FC, FR, FL into LFE.
That’s my working config sofar.
