This forum are slow on the first load

Hi,

For whatever reason, this forum sometimes takes almost a minute, to load, as if it were loading from a cold start. Then it keeps working for a time.

If I leave it open or not and later try to let’s say save a post, it keeps spinning till it complete loads, then everytime is instantly available.

Any reason for that?

Zero issues here.

It’s the only forum from discourse that I’ve experienced this behavior.

Hi,

The Server is actually located in Germany and has a 2.5 Gbits upstream. On top of this, this website is set behind cloudflare, to cache the assets and others.

Generally, there is the complete cloudflare proxy enabled, but we are also forcing:

  • TLS 1.3
  • ECH is enabled as default for more security
  • If your browser supports zstd compression, then it will use this

Some ISP’s like the german telekom has a bad routing to cloudflare. You can check, to which cloudflare servers youre connected with the cloudflare optics addon, see the screenshot.

Maybe try to use a different nameserver, like cloudflare/google or equal.

I have 1gbps connection with nextdns (doh). It’s fast everywhere, here is fast too.

But like I said, sometimes there is this cold boot/start like behavior that takes many seconds till the website are acessible. Once it is, it’s continously, till I stop for a time.

Maybe it’s the route like you said.

Maybe this can show what I mean.

Check the processing and load events below and how many ms it took to complete.

And if that is the cause, then the issue would be on the server itself or discourse implementation.

Just got a perfect example of what I mean. @ptr1337
