I have a base Arch system that I recently migrated the repos to the ones from cachyos. Later I installed the cachyos-bore kernel and after migrating I realized that games had a lot of screen tearing which was absolutely non-existent before. Any ideas? I’m running wayland on an AMD GPU.
Did you only install the kernel or other packages from the CachyOS repos. If you are using KDE Plasma and have also installed KWin from our repos, together with enabling tearing in display settings, you might experience tearing due to enabled functionality.
Yes I do use KDE and I also installed packages from cachy repo apart from the kernel packages. This process updated every package it could in the system. However I did play with the display settings notably with screen tearing and adaptive sync and I already applied the fix you mentioned to no wail. The problem persisted exactly.
Can you untick the tearing toggle in kwin?
We patch kwin to be possible to use this toggle. This will be also as default in the upcoming PLasma 6.2 release.
I had tried this and the problem still persisted unfortunately.
Could you try to downgrade kwin? e.g:
sudo pacman -S extra/kwin
Besides that there can not be any changes which would introduce tearing.
