Hello CachyOS Community,
I’m experiencing a persistent issue with OBS game capture, specifically using VKcapture, and I’m hoping to get some assistance.
Problem Description:
- I’m trying to capture No Man’s Sky using OBS game capture with VKcapture.
- When I add OBS_VKCAPTURE=1 %command% to the Steam launch options for No Man’s Sky, the game consistently crashes upon launch.
- This issue occurs even when I set OBS_VKCAPTURE=1 as a global environment variable (tried both /etc/environment and ~/.bashrc, and a file in /etc/profile.d/).
- Interestingly, VKcapture works perfectly fine with Valheim. I can capture Valheim without any crashes using the same launch option.
- I have tried using, OBS_VKCAPTURE=1 OBS_VKCAPTURE_LINEAR=1 %command% in the steam launch options, and this also causes a crash.
- I have made sure that my system is fully updated, and that my vulkan drivers are up to date.
- I have tested with obs running, and also without obs running, and the game crashes in both cases.
Is there another version of OBS that just works somewhere in the repos without having to install VKCapture and add commands to my steam games?
System Information:
- Graphics Card: NVidia 4070
- Graphics Driver: Latest
- Kernel version: Default CachyOS
Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
- Verified game file integrity in Steam.
- Tested with different Proton versions (if applicable).
- Lowered in-game graphics settings.
- Checked OBS logs (no relevant errors found).
- Checked system logs(journalctl) (no relevant errors found).
- Tested with and without OBS running.
- Tested with, and without the OBS_VKCAPTURE_LINEAR=1 enviroment variable.
- Removed all other steam launch options, to isolate the issue.
Questions: - Has anyone else encountered similar issues with No Man’s Sky and VKcapture on CachyOS?
- Are there any specific configurations or workarounds that might resolve this conflict?
- Could there be compatibility issues between VKcapture and No Man’s Sky’s specific Vulkan implementation?
- Are there any other vulkan capture programs that I could test with?
Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!
