If Cosmic is chosen as the Desktop when cachy is installed my screen flickers ie goes blank and comes back very rapidly. If i add cosmic after cachy install with KDE Plasma I do not have the screen issues. Both installs I am using the nvidia open.
Maybe compare the package list between the two installs? pacman -Qe
good idea problem i have is that the Cosmic install screen is so bad I cant get to the terminal to execute anything. I’n mot sure if it would make much difference but I may try the legacy driver install but it is my understanding it still uses the same driver
You can get a text based terminal session if you press ctrl+alt+f3
Then you should run pacman -Qe | paste-cachyos
and compare the two outputs somewhere with diff or something.
I don’t use nvidia, so I don’t know what could be the problem.
I suspect that some package is missing when you install KDE after cosmic. Or it’s a config that they forgot to add to the cosmic system install process, in this case I don’t know what to do. Maybe run a diff on /etc?
But if you need KDE anyway, just go with the install method that works.
I wanted to play around with Cosmic since I’m a big fan of System76 hardware and Pop, having said that I’m a bigger fan of CachyOS. I’ll wait for Cosmic to be released and try it again.
