Hi there, loving this OS, therefore here my naming improvement suggestion.
Now I know things are already set in its ways, but what the hell:
I would suggest a name edit to this project from CachyOS to SnappyOS. CachyOS sounds rather off-putting and abstract, whereas SnappyOS sounds natural, pleasant and inviting.
The meaning is clear to everyone with a brain immediately, since this OS is so fast and SNAPPY, whereas not everyone would immediately know what Cachy/Cache even is. If this project wants to grow into a bigger crowd, I think thats the way to go.
Itâs a long-shot but thatâs my naming improvement suggestion.
The is nothing off putting about the name CachyOS in the tiniest bit. Actually to anyone with any real intelligence Snappy can mean fast and responsive, or quick to answer with little to nothing to offer.
Reminds me too much of snap and Ubuntu. In my mind when I think SnappyOS I think every application taking 1-2 seconds to start ontop of its base load time because snap is slow.
And snappiness isnât coherent across all media. Some people run the distro off strange things like flash drives, thatâs never gonna be âsnappyâ Well unless they copy to RAMâŚand then startup is very slow.
You can keep your anal-fixation to yourself that would be much appreciated among this round of grown up, mature and civil individuals or do I have to remind you of your own set of rules:
Be kind to your fellow community members.
Constructive criticism is welcome, but criticize ideas, not people.
I like the idea but I would also prefer to move further in that regard. From SnappyOS, we could isolate the Snap part, and then follow the popular culture, so we stay relevant of course, and call it ThanOS, which is also a nice concatenation.
This could also be interpreted as âBetter Thanâ which is factually true, as CachyOS is better than every other OS.
The âbeautyâ of opensource is you can fork cachyos, change the name to âSmelly Bottom Sounds OSâ, if that is what you really want to do.
The rest of us use what works properly and dont fixate on the names.
