Mini PC, dual GPU setup

Hello

I am currently building a new system based on a AOOSTAR Gem12 amd Ryzen 7 8845HS CPU. I will be installing an Nvidia 3080 via Oculink from time to time (let say the GPU with its dock will sit under the TV but I may take the minipc somewhere else in the house from time to time). I daily drive Arch for many years now and I stumbled upon this distro when watching YouTube. I have a couple of questions regarding my setup and if I have an advantage with CachyOS vs vanilla Arch and also if the hardware is compatible. Hopefully you can help me out.

  1. Do you support well Mediatek wifi chip ?
  2. Which drivers should I get in my case for amd and nvidia?
  3. Should I switch via optimus-manager or what do you advice?
  4. Has someone tried out Steam Big Picture, would the system be completely manageable via controller under the TV?
  5. Finally would CachyOS would benefit over arch for a setup that will be mostly gamed on?

Thanks a lot!
Averell

  1. We do not do anything special regarding wireless chips. If it’s in the kernel, its supported. If not, you need to find the out of tree modules and firmware.

  2. Handled by our hardware detection, you do not need to think about if :slightly_smiling_face:

  3. Laptop with Dual GPU Setup Guide | CachyOS

  4. If you’re talking about performance and comparing to a stock Arch experience, I would say yes. Our kernel patches help a lot in terms of desktop usage and gaming due to custom scheduler, pstate patches and many more.

Amazing thank you!
I remember having issue with Wayland last year especially while doing screensharing at work so I am bit reserved to use it. However it seems that it is highly recommended?
