actually it’s not working like that
what Lossless Scaling did was something like this and more details
- depending on your configuration, it will attempt to generate X * your current FPS, to the screen
- display refresh rate is actually not matters in here, unless you use vsync option which is capping the FPS to your refresh rate
- it’s back again to your hardware, are your hardware capable to produce that fake frame or not
- using FPS higher than vsync (in most case) will introduce you a tearing (also depend on your monitor, because some already have gsync / freesync tech which mitigate this)
now, if you just want to know if it’s working or not you might want to try this
- play games that can cap fps in their settings, try to cap the fps to 30 or lower (better to see the “works or not”)
- use lsfg to that game with 2x multiplier for the test, if you see double the frame from the fps caps (use mangohud to check), then it’s working fine
- if you didn’t see any improvement or doubled the fps, you might want to check other game first, because not every games supported
other approach if you just want to make it works
- install decky plugin (yes i know it’s for gamemode in most case)
- go to steam big picture
- press CTRL+2 to open the right panel
- proceed to install lsfg decky plugins
- just do your things with decky plugins (copy paste the launch parameter)
- play the game (do note, i havn’t test this yet, but i do use decky plugins in my desktop and it’s working, free games plugins btw, so it’s technically will works)
