Live USB is unstable with black screens when using iGPU - graphics reset

Hello!

I am trying to install CachyOS on a new build. I can boot the live USB to the desktop, but after that it constantly blacks out and shows the error below.

I can barely select any options before this happens and stops whatever I’m doing.
I don’t currently have a dGPU, so I’m just using the iGPU. I was under the impression that they were powerful enough for rendering desktops though…
Have tried for a few months now, so this has happened on the November, December and latest ISOs.

Thank you for your help!

System specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950x
RAM: Corsair DDR5-6000 CL30
Storage: Samsung 990 2TB
Motherboard: Asus ProArt X670E

Hmmm, I’m inclined to say it’s amdgpu kernel regressions, but seeing regressions across different ISOs is strange. Can you try giving more memory to the iGPU?

Hi naim, thanks for replying. Yeah, I’m not so sure that it’s a regression in the kernel, since I’ve had this problem over several month’s worth of ISOs.
The funny thing is that I wouldn’t even get to the desktop without manually overclocking the iGPU and increasing the memory, so at least I can kinda interact with the desktop? :grimacing:

Was on 2200mHz and 8GB, just tried 2400mHz and 16GB and it’s about the same. Is there maybe a hardware issue with my CPU…?

I’m not sure sorry, my laptop iGPU runs fine. Never had a desktop PC so I can’t really help here. Maybe try a BIOS update if it’s available.

That’s alright. It’s probably just a hardware issue, nothing I can really do about that.
