Kernel 6.11 ignores fixed CPU frequency

Well, as I said - I can help you with and compile you the kernels, but you need to test it.

Otherwise, just other people will face it as soon 6.12 is released. You can help there a lot.

Ok, I would like to help and test. How to start?

hi same max is 3301Mhz for my 8840HS using cachyos 6.11-05 ,
no problem with 6.11.arch-1-1
I can also test .

A little bit of update on this. @ptr1337 has also noticed a similar problem with the active driver: Core Performance Boost limited frequency is not respected with the 6.12 patches. He will bisect soon and follow up here. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update: Our curent stance is to drop the 6.12 amd-pstate patches until there are fixes. See 6.11: Drop amd-pstate, add fixes for intel and btrfs, update BORE Sch… · CachyOS/kernel-patches@1db509e · GitHub

Stay tuned for 6.11.1

Yes, no issues with Linux 6.11.1-2-cachyos.

Thanks. I’ll consider this solved for now. I will update again on this thread when we readd the 6.12 patchset with the necessary fixes.

Same issue in 6.12.rc1-1.

Obviously, as the patches were pulled in from 6.12 tree. There hasn’t been any fixes as far as I’m aware. No bisects have been made either.

Bisected it down and reported to AMD:

hi
bug back with 6.11.3-3-cachyos

What about 6.11.3-2?

edit: @tomj44 what CPU do you have?

I haven’t test 6.11.3-2 , my cpu is 8840HS , Asus zenbook 14 UM3406HA
now i m back with arch kernel 6.11.3-1 , cpu freq ok but also less power consumption (laptop) than cachyos 6.11.1-2 (cachyos kernel 24h ago).
without do anything cachyos kernel 4 W , arch kernel 3W
YT same video cachyos 8W , arch 6W

I cannot confirm. Working here on Ryzen 9 7940HS.
Tested with amd_pstate set to active and passive.
Linux 6.11.3-3-cachyos znver4

@tomj44 Can you make a detailed steps-to-reproduce

e.g.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Do this
2. Do that

Expected behaviour:
That should happen

Actual behaviour:
This happens instead

after reboot to cachyos kernel i can’t reproduce trouble , i m now able rich 5132Mhz , i was stuck at 3301 this morning
sorry no idea why but seems ok now , also power consumption is now same as arch kernel, yesterday is was not good maybe uefi bug
edit thanks u for fast reply

Still the same issue in 6.12.0-rc3-1-cachyos-rc.

Cant reproduce anymore. Disabling boost is properly working.

You can see it in the pictures.
If I limit my max CPU Freq to 2500MHz some cores ignore this setting and go beyond. No matter which governor I choose and no matter if I set amd_pstate to active or passive. I don’t think this is boost related.
No such issue in latest Kernel 6.11.
