So rather than hijack the other thread I figured I would create a new post to explain what I’m encountering and what I’ve found.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
GPU: Radeon RX 7900XT
KDE Plasma 6.7.3
KWin (Wayland)
If I am playing a game that runs my GPU at 100% the output to the monitors freezes. The system itself continues to run and respond to input. Sometimes pressing the start/meta/super key fixes it. Sometimes hitting escape fixes it, and when all else failes CTRL+ALT+F3 to switch to another TTY fixes it. Once the freeze happens it starts to happen more frequently each time it happens.
This happen when only the game is running but also seems to be ame worse if I have a video open on another monitor, it doesn’t have to be playing. The freezes happen almost immediatly and last longer.
My temps are all within normal ranges when it happens.
I’ve noticed this issue with the following kernels:
cachyos-v3/linux-cachyos
cachyos-v3/linux-cachyos-gcc (It still happens with this one but no where near as bad. Just the occasional stutter.)
cachyos-v3/linux-cachyos-rc
cachyos-v3/linux-cachyos-bore-lto
cachyos-v3/linux-cachyos-eevdf
cachyos/linux-cachyos
It doesn’t happen with the following kernels:
cachyos-v3/cachyos-lts
core/linux
I played Voices of the Void this morning using cachyos-v3/linux-cachyos and encountered the video freezes after aproximately 15 min. I switched to core/linux and played for about an hour before lunch, then came back and have been playing using this kernel since.
I attached the log from earlier this morning when it started happening with the stable kernel.
