DaVinci Resolve Studio 19.0.3 Not Starting After Update

before I ask this, I want to make it clear I have never updated Resolve on arch before lol

so to update…we legit just run a system update, and yay will update resolve? it’s just that simple??

i use octopi or cachyos-hello annd there apps/tweaks and system update

Ok, awesome! Using yay to update my system did, in fact, update resolve as well!

I can’t believe how simple it is haha

paru -S davinci-resolve-studio

Yes, we maintain it in the cachyos repository, since the package is really big and some machines have really problems even repacking it. Therefore you only make pacman -Syu and it will come automatically,

Thanks for the official confirmation! This is awesome to know

i starting to come conclusion that my DaVinci unable to initilize GPU issue is arch or how syste handles things even cosmic detects GPU is on use when starting DaVinci and Compute goes on but it wont switch to dGPU or it is OpenCL issue and i need to run intel side something that is not done yet

tested with Cuda and Cuda tool-kit still same

Can confirm this still works, thank you so much!

I’m using DaVince Resolve 19.1.x (latest is 19.1.4. currently if you don’t want to use the 20 Beta yet) without issues. Here’s how I installed it on a fresh CachyOS installation (keep in mind, I use KDE, Wayland and a nvidia card; in case you have a different set up, it may not work or needs adjustment):

Download the zip archive for Linux from the official website

sudo pacman -S fuse2

Note: I have a nvidia card so I check if those are installed, if not, install these:

sudo pacman -S --needed nvidia-utils opencl-nvidia

Extract the archive you downloaded before and chmod the *.run script within:

sudo chmod +x ~/Downloads/DaVinci_Resolve_Studio_19.1.4_Linux/DaVinci_Resolve_Studio_19.1.4_Linux.run

Now, execute the *.run script as follows:

SKIP_PACKAGE_CHECK=1 ~/Downloads/DaVinci_Resolve_Studio_19.1.4_Linux/DaVinci_Resolve_Studio_19.1.4_Linux.run

Note: In case you may not see a window opening, I had to reset all font sizes to their default size, reboot and the window appeared but this only happened once with an older version. I haven’t had this issue anymore when updating it.

Follow the installation instruction

Once installation is finished:

cd /opt/resolve/libs && sudo mkdir disabled-libraries && sudo mv libglib* libgio* libgmodule* disabled-libraries

Done, should work now.

UI scaling issue (in case things appear too small within DaVinci Resolve, you can check out this):

Open DaVinci → DaVinci Resolve → Preferences → User → UI Display Scale (at the bottom)

Maybe, that helps.

Slightly newer one here - 20.2 starts, but as soon as I enter a project/start a new one, it crashes and I get:

from journalctl. Any ideas?

My previous way of installing it still works, at least for me. I’m currently using 20.2.1 which is the latest at the time of posting this message.

My journalctl looks like this when I start it:

Not sure what’s the problem but comparing it, it could be because it cannot load the log config.

I tried your method, but whenever I click on Edit or Fusion, the program crashes every time.

So, when you open Davinci Resolve like this:

FusionScript Server [5225]

This is what I see when I click on edit. No crash. I currently have no option to click on any of the fusion options below it as their all greyed out so I cannot report on that.

I’m the same as you. Have you managed to fix it yet?

Nope, I haven’t :frowning:

Do you use an AMD GPU? There’s another thread here, maybe that’s related:

I use Nvidia card.
