CPU on its way to die?

Hello,

Looking for some answers for what an error means. I have only seen this error message on CachyOS and specifically after an system update (like yesterday).

Error message comes before you choose to start OS (grub/systemd menu)

I have had this error for maybe 6 months, and i has not affected my computer in any ways (except showing up after an system update).

Please take a look at the screenshots

I’d recommend to try a stress tool like stress-ng

Does your system perhaps have a builtin diagnostic? That would also be a good idea to look for.

e.g.:

stress-ng --cpu 0 --cpu-method all -t 20m

(run cpu stressors on all configured CPUs working through all the available CPU stressors for 20 minutes)

I also ran the CachyOS minibencher… no issues.

MCE indicates an error of the hardware, indeed.

If you use any Overclocking or Undervolting Reset these and check again. This has nothing to do with Cachy at all

This can too happen, for example if at xyz workload the cpu didnt had enough voltage and then it reports a MCE.

Yeah, i’ll check the bios and do a reset of the settings.

This does look good. So as @ptr1337 said check your Bios settings.

Its done, lets play the waiting game… Updated BIOS version and let settings for CPU on ‘Auto’.
Enabled XMP and ReBAR. Other minor settings enabled.

Cool @gmoi

What s your Motherboard if you don t mind, just out of curiosity

Its an Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite (v1)

Hey thx @gmoi , that s a nice MB that you have in there !

Got an Z790 Aorus Master X REV1.0 recently ( I was supposed to get a secondhand Z690 Master but it didn t work, so got that one )

I still need to install it in my Mid-Tower case , but that s another story, I don t want to get another tower for my E-ATX board, I ll try with the help of a friemd to install it in an Antec P100 ( ATX), because I like that tower ! lol

Edit: I bought an Intel i5-12400 CPU in order to test the Z690 board to see if it s good, but I should ve bought the i5-12600K as it is more performance-wise but it s still another story ! lol

Its works fine for my use  Motherboards are so damn expensive today. Have tried Gigabyte, Asus and MSI over the years. Next upgrade i’ll try Asrock.

Getting the right tower is sometimes a hassle if you don’t go for a big tower.
