Glad its worked out.

I took the liberty of marking the first post outlining the missing [multilib] as that was the core issue of the original query (and corresponding title).

I am still mildly worried about any other files possibly in a similar state. But if you are not encountering any problems then it might be a non-issue.

Some other files to check might be /etc/mkinitcpio.conf, /etc/vconsole.conf, /etc/hostname, /etc/sudoers, and/or your bootloader conf like /etc/default/grub.

Somewhat aside but maybe related .. we could look at any current pacnew files with;

If you are not familiar with it then the proper tool to handle pacnews is pacdiff.

To print existing ones;

pacdiff -o

Managing them would look something like the following;

To handle them (using sudoedit privleges as necessary);

pacdiff -s

If you do not have DIFFPROG set somewhere and therefor it defaults to vi comparison you can set the env var on the execution line;

DIFFPROG=meld pacdiff -s

Following the prompts to View (view is also ‘edit’ - then save and exit the comparison tool when done) and afterwards Remove the pacnew or Skip it to retain for later inspection.

But we can go through it more definitively if there are any examples to work with.

When pacman removes a package that has a configuration file, it normally creates a backup copy of that configuration file and appends .pacsave to the name of the file. Likewise, when pacman upgrades a package which includes a new configuration file created by the maintainer differing from the currently installed file, it saves a .pacnew file with the new configuration. pacman provides notice when these files are written.
